While it may take some time before ergonomic practices become
standardized within the workplace, it is important to educate yourself
on what you can do now to avoid unnecessary pain and suffering associated
with poor form and posture.
Proper posture is essential to maintaining healthy bones, muscles, and
joints, as well as proper alignment throughout the body. Ergonomics plays
a key role in helping individuals to maintain correct posture and avoid
RSI’s. Proper postural techniques in combination with ergonomics
will deliver strong muscles and joints and a healthy alignment of the
spine, as well as prevent fatigue, pain, wearing of the joints, and poor
appearance.
Many factors contribute to poor posture, including, but not limited to:
• obesity
• pregnancy
• weak muscles
• high-heeled shoes
• tight muscles; decreased flexibility
• poor work environment
• poor sitting and standing habits
Proper posture and Ergonomics helps us to become aware of our body position
at all times, whether it be at work, play, or even in a relaxed environment.

Do your recall your mothers and teachers telling you to sit up straight?
Well…their point has merit.

These sketches are of the myofacial trigger points
that have developed in the muscles. Myofacial trigger points are
marked with colored X's.
The corresponding shaded colors show the areas of pain from these
trigger points.
Experts believe that the actual site of the injury or the strain
prompts the development of a trigger point that, in turn, causes
pain and inflammation in other areas. Myofascial pain may develop
from a muscle injury or from excessive strain on a particular muscle
or muscle group, ligament or tendon.
Without proper posture and assistance through ergonomics, myofascial
pain exists, resulting in a chronic condition that affects the fascia
(connective tissue that covers the muscles).
Trigger points in the scapula, as shown here, induce pain locally
and down the arm and into the hands.

Trigger points in muscles of the upper back and shoulders can
cause
pain shooting up into the head and down the arms. This can result
in
intense discomfort in the shoulder blades, neck, and skull, resulting
in immobility, tingling, burning, numbness, headaches, blurred vision,
dizziness, facial and ear pain, and even nausea. This is a sign
of nerve entrapment. It is crucial to be sure that your work station
is ergonomically correct. Proper focus on posture is a must as well.
Theanswer lies in The Lap-Stop.

Tension in the neck muscles entrap nerves causing pain radiating
into chest, upper back and shoulders, as well as down arms into the
hands.
Tension headaches can manifest, along with sinus pressure, shortness
of breath, and chest tightness and pain. Immobility, tender muscles
and severe joint pain is common, as well as eye strain and
vision impairment. Numbness and tingling down the arms is a result
of extreme tension. All of these unpleasant symptoms can be rectified
with ergonomics, The Lap-Stop, and proper posture.

Constant stress with over use of the arms causes localized pain.
Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) often occurs in persons who perform
repetitive tasks involving the muscles of the forearms, upper arms,
shoulders and neck, such as typing, data entry or other frequent use
of keyboards. Inflammation and tenderness occurs, as well as lack
of
mobility, joint tightness, and tingling into the extremities. Proper
ergonomic techniques and The Lap-Stop can correct chronic pain from
overuse and
improper form and posture.

It is imperative that the necessary changes are made to ensure proper
posture and eliminate unnecessary pain, future health problems and the
loss of productivity in our workplace. Ergonomics and The Lap-Stop is
the solution!
